Where Does It Come From?

Sugar is something we use every day. Whether it's to bake with or put in our coffee, our lives wouldn't be the same without it. Americans consume vast amounts of the sweet stuff, but have you ever stopped to wonder where it comes from? We take it for granted, but there's more to sugar than you think.

Brazil, the largest sugar producer in the world, makes 20% of the world's sugar, or thirty million tons. Sugar from Brazil is exported to the tune of 17.7 million tons to other nations each year.

Sugar production in Brazil isn't just for sweetener, either. Ethanol, a product of sugar cane, is also produced, making Brazil more self sufficient.

I always think it's kind of fun to learn about where our products come from and how they are made. I had no idea that sugar was such big business. Be sure to check out the website to learn all about sugar production in Brazil.
