I used to live in a house that had a metal roof. When it would rain, you could hear it plink-plink-plinking on the roof at night. It was a relaxing sound, I thought.
There are quite a few advantages to having metal roofing on your house. The main factor is the time and money you'll save in the long run. A metal roof almost never needs to be repaired or replaced. Once you decide to put a metal roof on your house, you'll probably never have to worry about it again.
Also, you'll save money on your energy bill! Metal roofing offers insulating properties that save on heating and cooling costs!
Since a metal roof can be placed over an old, existing shingled roof, there is less waste to haul away. In addition, if for some reason you should decide you want to remove your metal roof, it is completely recyclable! How's that for being eco-friendly?
If you've been thinking that it's time to replace your roof, consider going metal. Not only will you save money, you'll be lulled to sleep by the gentle pitter-patter of rain on the roof.

I too like metal roofs. Some people may have a hard time with the noise. If you have an oak or an acorn tree above you may get startled when the nuts drop. They come in colors or just plain galvanized. Installation can be DIY but if you have lots of valleys and flashing details they must be done properly to ensure a water tight job. If you are unsure what you are doing hire a pro.
