Freezing Temps at Night?

Here in Wisconsin, we're still experiencing near-freezing, if not freezing, temperatures at night. Last night, it got down to 31ยบ here, and a couple hours north of here where my parents live, it was in the twenties.

With flowers blooming, or trying to, the freezing temps at night do them absolutely no good, and can actually kill them. That's why, if you are having the same crazy weather we're having here, you need to go out when you know it's going to be cold overnight, and cover your newly blooming flowers to protect them from the cold.

You can use just about anything. I like to use old bedsheets. They are light enough that they don't hurt the plant, but enough to keep the frost off. You can use buckets or towels, too. Anything will work, as long as it's not too heavy. Be sure to uncover the plants in the morning, though.

Hopefully, we won't have to do this for much longer. Once temperatures start staying in the forties at night, you shouldn't have to cover your plants anymore.
